Free Music Library Online
A library of out-of-copyright music has been created online at www.imslp.org. The goal of the Petrucci Music Library is to create a virtual library containing all public domain music scores, as well as scores from composers who are willing to share their music with the world without charge. It also encourages the exchange of musical ideas, both in the form of musical works and in their analysis. Users can post their analysis of a particular piece on the “discussion” pages, or join our forums for discussion with the community.
The time period runs from Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Early 20th Century, all the way to the present.
Music is available for all instrument combinations and can be browsed by composer name, time period, genre or instruments, also available in many different languages. As of May 2010, there are 59,000 scores and 24,000 works with scores and full parts in the library.
