Violin Masterclass with Claire Duff
Go behind the music and discover Handel’s Violin Sonatas with Claire Duff.
Join the Irish Baroque Orchestra’s Associate Leader Claire Duff, for an exclusive masterclass diving into the exquisite world of Handel’s violin sonatas. This session offers violinists and music enthusiasts an opportunity to explore the intricacies of period performance practice, guided by one of Ireland’s leading specialists.
IBO are inviting applications from violinists aged 16 and above, working on Baroque violin or a modern violin with Baroque bow.
You should prepare two movements from a Handel sonata. There is no charge to participate but you will need to provide a harpsichordist. IBO can provide contact details for a harpsichordist on request, should you wish to engage them. Financial assistance with these costs is a possibility – please indicate in your cover letter if you wish to be considered for this.
Claire Duff brings her wealth of expertise and passion for historically-informed performance to this masterclass, offering participants an in-depth look at Handel’s violin sonatas. From phrasing and ornamentation to bowing techniques and the expressive freedom of Baroque style, this session promises to inspire and elevate your understanding of these masterpieces.
