The Irish Association of Youth Orchestras will host an online forum on Thursday, 30 November from 10am – 12 noon to discuss sourcing and arranging repertoire for youth ensembles. The forum will be led by Niamh Crowley (Sligo Academy of Music) and Vanessa Sweeney will also present.
During the forum, Niamh will present on her experience of finding suitable repertoire for a varied ensemble, how she reworks repertoire to suit the ensemble using various arrangement techniques and Sibelius. She will discuss how she and her orchestra decide on repertoire together and where she finds it (exp. online sources, Kaleidescope, etc.).
Vanessa will then present on where she finds suitable music for youth ensembles, what resources are available for orchestra managers, tutors and conductors and how they review a score to see if it would be suitable for their ensemble.
Following this, there will be a discussion on where the participants find suitable music for youth ensembles, what resources are available for orchestra managers, tutors and conductors and how they review a score to see if it would be suitable for their ensembles. There will be an informal discussion amongst participants where attendees can ask each other questions and share own experiences of finding and choosing repertoire.
