NYCI “Access All Areas” Diversity Toolkit
The National Youth Council of Ireland Equality and Intercultural Programme have launched new chapters in their “Access All Areas” Diversity Toolkit including one on working with young people in rural and geographically isolated areas.
The free “Access All Areas” Diversity Toolkit is essential for anyone working with young people and invites organisations to examine how they engage with youth from a variety of backgrounds. This toolkit can be used to assess the level of access organisations are providing to all young people, especially those from minority ethnic communities, young Travellers, lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender young people, young people with a disability, early school leavers, young people involved in the juvenile justice system, young parents and young people with mental health issues.
This new chapter looks at issues facing young people in rural Ireland and offers examples of how youth services have adapted to meet their needs. Responses include using mobile and pop-up services and utilising the detached youth work model to engage with as many young people as possible.
