Julianstown Youth Orchestra Auditions
Applications are now open for the Julianstown Youth Orchestra Academy & Senior Orchestra.
There are two orchestras, and placement is based on ability and age:
- The Academy Orchestra is primarily for primary school children (with at least 1 year of lessons)
- The Senior Orchestra is mainly for secondary school children (with a minimum of grade 3 exams or equivalent)
Applications for the Senior Orchestra:
Applications are invited for Violin, Viola, Cello, Flute / Piccolo, Oboe / Clarinet , Saxophone, Bassoon, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion, Harp and Double Bass.
Applicants should have a minimum of Grade 3 standard.
Auditions:
Auditions will take place in Coláiste na hInse, Bettystown, Meath on Friday, 6 September 2024.
Players will play one piece of their choosing (or part of a piece) but it should only be short (2 mins max). It will be a small session with Lorcan Daly and Maia Matthews , the orchestra conductors. It will be a quick chat in a very supportive environment and it’s not intended to be intimidating. Any piece of music is fine!

Players for the JYO Academy are invited to join this September. No formal auditions. Players should be preparing for grade 1.
Rehearsals for both the JYO Academy and JYO Senior Orchestra start on Friday, 13 September 2024.
Schedule:
- JYO Academy: 17:15 – 18:30
- Senior Orchestra: 18:30 -20:30
Placement decisions are made solely by the musical director.
