Dublin Youth Orchestras encourages children and young adults to play in a positive and friendly environment. DYO give an annual concert in January or February and tours have taken DYO to all corners of Ireland as well as to Europe, the USA and Asia.

Auditions are open to young musicians aged 9-18+. Musicians will be allocated to the orchestra suited to their age and musical ability. Most string players in DYO start in the Junior Strings (minimum age 9), while the other orchestral members start in the Intermediate Orchestra (minimum age 11). Places are also available in the Concert Orchestra (minimum age 14) and the Symphony Orchestra (minimum age 16).

At the audition musicians will be required to play a short extract from one of their pieces and a sight reading extract. They do not require an accompanist. Players must take lessons in their instrument from a qualified teacher.

DYO are taking auditions on the following instruments only:

Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
Woodwind: Bassoon, Clarinet, Flute, Oboe
Brass: French Horn, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba
