IAYO Youth Orchestra Collaboration Grant: Sing Out With Strings

Irish Chamber Orchestra’s Sing Out With Strings is participating in a new collaborative project with Music Generation Kerry and Music Generation Louth, as part of the IAYO Youth Orchestra Collaboration Grant scheme. Entitled Corda Connections, the project will bring the ICO’s Youth Orchestra together with string ensembles in Kerry and Louth to create the Corda Connected Youth Orchestra. The IAYO Youth Orchestra Collaboration Grant scheme seeks to encourage collaboration among youth orchestras in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, you can read more about the scheme here.

In July, they held their first ever Corda Connections String residential course at Dundalk Grammar School, participants enjoyed intensive rehearsals and the opportunity to play with musicians from around Ireland. This concluded with a concert featuring young musicians from Music Generation Kerry, Music Generation Louth and the Irish Chamber Orchestra Youth Orchestra. This was co-funded by The Arts Council, Music Generation Ireland, the Irish Chamber Orchestra and IAYO.

They have put together a show reel from their summer residential course, including interview footage. This will be available to watch online soon. The orchestra will be performing again at a Music Generation event in early March. In between these events, they are also organising online workshops.
