The annual IAYO Chamber Music Weekend will take place this year on the June Bank Holiday week-end, from 3rd to 5th June in Galway. The weekend is presented in association with Galway Youth Orchestra and Galway’s ConTempo Quartet. Musical Director this year is Una O’Kane, who will be joined by a host of experienced tutors. The 13th annual Summer Music on the Shannon (SMS) music school and festival will take place in Ennis and the University of Limerick with a variety of junior, intermediate and senior courses running between 31st July and 19th August 2006. The SMS Youth Opera Theatre programme, in association with Opera Ireland, will also take place from 24th July to 15th August. SMS brings together music students, teachers, and professional musicians in a ‘Summer Community of Musicians’, designed to give musicians of all ages and levels of achievement the opportunity to rehearse and perform together. Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

The inaugural Templeogue Orchestral Performance Summer School will take place from 7th to 12th August 2006 with a Gala Concert at St Jude’s Church Templeogue on Saturday 12th August, conducted by Fergus Sheil. The summer school is aimed at students (aged 16+), adult amateur and professional musi-cians who wish to be part of a relaxed, fun approach to performing major orchestral works. There will also be opportunities for playing in chamber music groups during the week under the guidance of experi-enced professional tutors onsite.

It’s your last chance to get applications in for this year’s ConCorda course which will be held in Kilkenny from 17th to 25th August. ConCorda offers young string players an u n p a ralleled, inspiring and transforming musical experience in chamber music, string orchestra, and music theatre improvisation classes. The course is aimed at string players aged between 14 and 21. String quartets or individual students may apply.
