Opportunity to Learn Baroque Oboe & Baroque Bassoon with the Irish Youth Baroque Orchestra

You will be provided with the loan of a quality reproduction instrument.

Baroque oboe in three pieces on IYBO poster

Oboe
Four oboe places are available and we are searching for oboe players of grade 8 standard and above, aged from 18 – 24 (although slightly older and younger players will be considered too).

It is hoped that we would have two players from Dublin and two from Cork to take part in the lessons. This is to ensure that lessons can take place with two musicians together.

Oboe players will have online lessons with Andreas Helm, professor for period oboe at the Kunstuniversität Graz and at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität. Andreas is also the Artistic Director of the Aestas Musica Summer School of Baroque Music in Varazdin, Croatia and teaches at the Trigonale Coaching in Ossiach, Carinthia and regular performer with the Irish Baroque Orchestra.

Bassoon
There is one bassoon available and we are searching for a bassoon player of grade 8 standard and above, aged from 18 – 24 (although slightly older and younger players will be considered too).

Players will have a mix of online and in-person lessons. The teacher(s) have yet to be decided. Ideally, this player will be based in Dublin for convenience with the in-person lessons.

Please read the further details below and you can watch an interview with Niamh O’Neill, one of the Baroque oboe students from 2021 who took part in and performed with the Irish Youth Baroque Orchestra 2021. Niamh undertook lessons online with Andreas Helm.

If you would be excited to participate in this opportunity, and learn Baroque oboe or bassoon, please send an email to info@iayo.ie outlining your musical experience and two paragraphs on your motivation to take part.

Closing date for expressions of interest is Friday, 10 December.
