IAYO National Chamber Music Workshop 2015
For strings, woodwind and brass from grade 2 to grade 5.
(More advanced players are welcome to apply as part of a pre-formed ensemble.)

The Irish Association of Youth Orchestras invites applications for the 18th National Chamber Music Workshop from string, wind and brass players wishing to learn chamber music. Open to players from Grade 2 to Grade 5 standard, experience of chamber ensemble playing is not needed but players should be able to read music. More advanced players are welcome to apply as part of a pre-formed ensemble.
The workshop will take place at Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine in Kenmare, County Kerry on the weekend of 17 and 18 October 2015. Both residential and non-residential places are available. Accommodation will be in the college for those staying over. Meals will be provided for all players.
It is best to apply for this course as a quartet of ready made chamber ensemble. However, groups will also be formed from individual applications based on standard and age. If you want to be in a group with specific friends while on the course, do let us know on the application form. Players under 10 years of age may attend on a non-residential basis only.

Can we start from scratch?
The National Chamber Music Workshop is an ideal introduction to chamber playing for many young musicians and equally an excellent course for experienced players who are interested in developing further. In addition to learning in a small chamber group with other musicians of your standard you will also play in a larger string ensemble or wind band.
Who tutors the groups?
An experienced group of professional musicians tutor on the course. All are experienced in teaching young musicians and facilitating workshops.
Where do we go when we arrive?
Once you arrive at the course venue you should find the registration desk. You will then be given any additional information about the course. From there you will meet your tutor, get your music and begin your workshop.
Where will we stay?
Accommodation for residential players will be nearby in the accommodation of the Star Outdoors Centre and will include room shares/dorimtories. For non-residential players IAYO can provide a list of accommodation in the area, which you can book. A full course outline will be sent out once workshop places have been allocated.
What kind of music will we play?
IAYO provides an extensive music library for the National Chamber Music Workshop. There is a very wide variety of music of all levels covered throughout the weekend from classical to popular. There is something for everyone! If there is something you would like to work on please feel free to bring it and discuss it with your tutor.
Are there opportunities to perform?
Informal concerts will take place during the weekend where groups can share what they have learned during the day. The course closes with a concert which will feature all ensembles and may be attended by parents.
