Historical Performance for String Players Course with RIAM

The Royal Irish Academy of Music is offering a new short course ‘Historical Performance For String Players’ with Claire Duff as teacher. This is an in-person class.

More information and how to apply can be found here.

Course begins Thursday, October 27 and runs over a five week period. Price is €195.

IAYO members are being offered a discounted rate of €145.

Internationally renowned as a baroque violinist, Claire Duff is in demand as a soloist, chamber musician, leader, director and teacher. Claire is passionate about teaching historically-aware performance.

As part of this five-week deep dive into historical performance for strings, Claire explores the approach to the performance of baroque music and the manner and style of the musical era in which works were originally conceived.

Through performance and analysis of repertoire from the time, Claire will lead participants on an investigation of the stylistic and technical aspects of performance. The course will consider period instruments which were in use at the time of the original composition, and which usually have different timbre and temperament from their modern equivalents

A must-do course for string players looking to improve their general skills in performance, or wishing to learn more about historical playing through an interactive and performance course.
