The Irish Youth Baroque Orchestra began in 2017 as a collaboration between the Irish Baroque Orchestra and Irish Association of Youth Orchestras and supported by the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
The orchestra is aimed at advanced instrumental students between the ages of 18 and 24 with an interest in historically informed performance practice. (Exceptional players outside of the age range will be considered.)
It is intended for all participants to perform on period instruments provided by the IBO, IAYO and other partners. At a minimum, string players will be provided with gut strings and the use of period bows. Players of other instruments will be facilitated with the loan of a period instrument in advance of the course.
