American Orchestra Seeks Exchange Partners
The Charlottesville High School Orchestra is one of the largest and most recognised high school music programs in the United States. Under the leadership of Laura Mulligan Thomas, the CHSO has grown from a fledgling group eight string players in 1982 to a program of 150 with a stellar résumé of top prizes in national competitions, international tours, and unique programming. In the past three decades, the CHSO has garnered top awards in music festivals in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Orlando, Dallas, and more. The CHSO tour of Ireland this summer is the fifth European visit for the ensemble; in 1998 the group placed second in the International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna and also performed in Hallstatt, Austria, and Krabcice, Czech Republic; in 2007, and the CHSO won the Grand Championship of the London Heritage Festival of Music. In 2011, the CHSO performed as part of the Florence International Youth Festival, and also gave concerts in Tarquinia and Poggio a Caiano, Italy.
The orchestra is planning on travelling to Ireland from 25-29th June 2017 and would like to meet orchestras and perform and share concerts in any, or all of, Galway, Killarney and Dublin.
