Established in 2017, Symphonic Waves is a regional youth orchestra managed by Music Generation Galway County/Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB) and based in the west of Ireland.
Inspired by the bid book process for the European Capital of Culture 2020 for Galway, the idea for the ensemble grew from an identified need to provide high-level progression pathways and ensemble performance opportunities for advanced young musicians along the western seaboard.
With R.I.A.M Professor James Cavanagh at the helm, the orchestra has embarked on an ambitious programme of repertoire to be performed at a series of major concerts including a side by side with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, participating in the launch of Galway 2020 and a performance in the National Concert Hall in Dublin as part of the IAYO 25th Festival of Youth Orchestras.
