Eurochestries International Festivals Seek Chamber Groups for 2019 Festivals

Eurochestries International Festivals of Youth Orchestras have a number of spaces available for chamber music ensembles, quartets, quintets and orchestras for their Charente Maritime Festival in France from 30 July – 12 August and also for their Deux-Sevres Festival from 4 – 12 July.

The Eurochestries festivals are a cost-friendly, performance-based festival for musicians aged 15 – 25 that take place across the world. Lasting from 10 days to two weeks, participating groups take part in an international orchestra with all other participants, conducted by guest, international conductors. Musicians perform four times with this international orchestra (two opening and two closing concerts) and will also have a minimum of 5 concerts with their own group, all of which are organised by the Festival to very appreciative audiences.

The Charente Maritime Festival is their flagship festival and takes places between the cities of Pons and Jonzac, near Bordeaux, France. The Deux-Sevres Festival is a little smaller and takes place in the City of Noirt, near La Rochelle. I have just returned from the Eurochestries International Congress where I was able to meet and speak with musicians, conductors, composers and arts administrators who have participated in numerous of these festivals and they really could not have spoken more highly of them. They said that that they are fun, relaxed and it makes international trips so easy as everything is organised for your group and the audiences for concerts are always great!

The cost is €50 per participating musician plus €50 per group and this covers all accommodation (in a boarding school for Charente Maritime and in homestays in Deux-Sevres) and meals for the duration of the Festival. The travelling group would have to pay for their flights and travel from the airport (but this travel is organised with the help of the Festival team) and any extracurricular excursions that they may want to do in their free time. It’s also possible to hire any bigger instruments that may be needed for a very reasonable rate and this is also organised by the Festival team.

IAYO would love to see Irish groups taking an interest in these Festivals as we feel that this is a great opportunity for any ensemble wishing to travel on a budget this summer and collaborate with other international young musicians and groups.
