Esker Festival Orchestra 2018

The 2018 edition of the Esker Festival Orchestra is running this summer from 6 – 12 August. Applications for this summer rehearsal and Irish performance tour are open to advanced musicians aged 18-30.

The Esker Festival Orchestra is Ireland’s most exciting and established peer led orchestra, made up of Irish and International young professionals and advanced students. This summer the orchestra will be resident in the wonderful surrounds of the National University of Ireland Galway and will see performances in Galway, Cork and Dublin. The Esker Festival Orchestra is delighted to continue our collaboration with The Galway Music Residency and the Galway ConTempo Quartet who, along with other top professionals will provide tutoring to the members of the orchestra.

Esker Festival Orchestra was set up in 2014 to provide a high quality, beneficial and meaningful musical opportunity for young emerging musicians from all across Ireland. Esker Festival Orchestra is unique in that it is entirely led and run by its members for its members. They take responsibility for all the artistic and administrative aspects of the orchestra. This includes choosing repertoire, composing, conducting, concert management and fundraising, allowing those taking part to gather invaluable first-hand experience in the world of orchestral music. All artistic decisions are made by the orchestra’s committee, in consultation with experienced professionals.

Esker Festival Orchestra allows young musicians from across the country to perform and socialise together, building relationships that will be essential during their personal and professional lives. It promotes and develops orchestral music in Ireland by nurturing the talents of its emerging musicians and crucially provides all of this with no financial burden on the musicians themselves. Each season of Esker Festival Orchestra includes a new work by a young Irish composer and a concerto performed by a young soloist.
