CIT Cork School of Music TY Orchestra Programme
The CIT Cork School of Music Transition Year Orchestra Programme is running from Monday 23rd – Friday 27th April 2018 and offers a special work experience week from for those transition year students who wish to gain a real insight to the professional demands and working routine of the orchestral musician. This week is suitable for young musicians in transition year 2017-18 who have achieved at least grade five on an orchestral instrument.
Applications for the project have been very high. There are a limited number of places remaining for orchestral brass, bassoons, violas, double basses, and orchestral percussion. There are also parallel courses for traditional Irish and piano players.
The ensemble will have:
- Daily group rehearsals with a professional conductor
- Sectional rehearsals with experienced orchestral professionals
- Tutorial sessions on audition technique and professional etiquette
- Training sessions in marketing using social media
- Observation opportunities with other CSM ensembles
- Final lunchtime concert in aid of local charities
There is no charge for the participants on this project and please note that it is not a chaperoned residential course. Participants are required to attend at CIT Cork School of Music in Cork City Centre from 9am to 16pm from Monday 23 April to Friday 27 April. Accommodation, where necessary, can be recommended but will not be co-ordinated by CSM.
Players are accepted on the basis of a video audition and numbers are limited to standard orchestral section sizes. Candidates should upload two one-minute videos of themselves playing two contrasting extracts of own-choice (smart-phone videos are fine) – if second-round auditions are necessary we will contact each candidate with further instructions.
