Laois School of Music Orchestra in Scotland

Over the St Patrick’s weekend, 20 pupils, 12 parents and the orchestra director travelled to Aberdeen to play with the Fraserburgh Academy.

The only word that I could possibly use to describe our orchestra trip to Aberdeen would be ‘unforgettable’. We spent our days playing and mingling with the students from Fraserburgh Academy and together we played a lively piece called ‘Last Minute Latin’ which allowed us to bond and progress as a group. Our Orchestra is mostly strings so it was great for us to have their brass and woodwind sections join us – it really filled out the sound. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to communicate with people you’ve just met through the medium of music. We made new lifelong friends and we of course added them on Facebook and Snapchat to keep in touch!

Within our own group we played a number of different pieces and I am so proud to say that I was part of such a talented group of musicians. It also brought us closer as a group and though we left Portlaoise as a group of musicians and parents, we returned a group of friends. I can’t thank Nuala, John and the parents enough for making this incredible trip possible. It was a bittersweet ending for me knowing that my time with the school has nearly run it’s course but I will cherish the memories forever!
