Ode to Joy – A Final Thank You
From James Cavanagh and all of us at IAYO, we wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who helped with Ode to Joy – A Nation Performs for European Music Day on Sunday, 21 June, either through your participation or by helping us spread the word!
President Michael D Higgins launched a nationwide musical tribute to the country’s frontline workers at 6pm on Sunday 21 June, European Music Day.
The musical salute then continued in the auditorium of the National Concert Hall, Dublin. This live stream can be viewed below.
Following this, there were performances across the country from performers adding their own #OdeToJoyIE tribute to our frontline crew on #EuropeanMusicDay.
Musicians across the country came together to perform this nationwide tribute to our frontline workers with performances happening in nearly every county on the island and in many countries across the world including Japan, Spain, Serbia and the US! It was so encouraging to see so many groups getting together to perform – It will build not just hope, but the will to get up and running again and work it out.
The number of new videos that are still being sent into us at IAYO and are appearing on social media is astounding! We are trying to collate as many of these performances as possible and we’re creating a page on www.odetojoy.ie featuring them. If you or anyone you know has a video of a performance that has not been sent into us and would like to feature, please send it either as an attachment, by WeTransfer or a YouTube link to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The live-streamed video featuring President Michael D. Higgins and the performance of Ode to Joy from the National Concert Hall has been watched more than 17,500 times since it went live on Sunday!
We look forward to speaking with you all again soon.
James, Allin, Bertie & Sinéad
