Composition Competition for Young Women Composers in Ireland
South Tipperary Arts Centre’s Finding a Voice Concert Series 2018
Works chosen will be performed at the Finding a Voice Concert Series in Clonmel. Co. Tipperary
South Tipperary Arts Centre invites women composers born or resident in Ireland, and under 30 years of age on 1st January 2018, to submit works for the three-part vocal ensemble Voice of between 3-5 minutes duration for performance at the Finding a Voice Concert Series to celebrate International Women’s Day 8th-10th March 2018 in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.
The winning composition will be selected anonymously by a panel comprising members of Voice vocal trio and Irish composer Marian Ingoldsby. The winning piece will receive its premiere performance by Voice on 8th March 2018 in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary as part of the opening concert in the Finding a Voice Concert Series. The winning composer will be invited to attend the concert series as its guest and will receive a cash prize.
Vocal ranges for the trio are as follows:
Using Scientific Pitch Notation where C4 = middle C, and octaves change on the Cs.
Voice 1 = A3 – C6 with folky chest to D5 (probably best from D4 – D5)
Voice 2 = G3 – B5 (one note lower than Voice 1 at both ends)
Voice 3 = E3 – G5 (most comfortable A3 – E5).
