UYO – Applications for 2013

Ulster Youth Orchestra is accepting applications for 2013. DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS Friday 26th October, 2012

Applications are invited from instrumentalists aged between 14 and 23 on 31st August 2013. You should be of a standard equivalent to Grade VII/VIII Associated Board. Promising players who have not yet reached this standard are also encouraged to apply. Applications are particularly welcome from viola, double bass, french horn, oboe and bassoon players.

We will endeavour to provide you with an audition at your preferred date/location, however, we reserve the right to change both dates and location, based on demand and availability of panellists.
Students are encouraged to apply to their local council and school or college for financial assistance. Application can be made to the Bursary Fund of the UYO by contacting the General Manager .

NYOI 2012 – 2013 Season Auditions

The National Youth Orchestra of Ireland is delighted to announce audition dates for the 2013 season! Application forms are available from www.nyoi.ie and the closing date for applications is 1 October 2012!

Auditions will take place as follows:

 Cork: Cork School of Music

Saturday 13th October

Dublin: Alexandra College, Milltown

Sunday 14th October

Saturday 20th October (percussion, harp & leadership)

Belfast: City of Belfast School of Music

Friday 19th October (evening)

RIAM Orchestral Manoeuvres 2012

Royal irish Academy of Music July 9 – 13, 2012.

Orchestral Manoeuvres is a non-residential five-day event led by conductor James Cavanagh and features expert training by members of the RIAM’s distinguished teaching staff as well as a number of rehearsal sessions with visiting conductors.

Students will:

  • Help select repertoire to be rehearsed and performed during the week.
  • Participate in sight-reading sessions.
  • Study the anatomy of the orchestra in a series of entertaining, interactive workshops.
  • Study alongside student conductors from the IAYO Programme.
  • Perform in a closing celebration concert in St. Andrew’s Church, Westland Row on July 13th 2012.

Date: July 9th to 13th. (From 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm)

Age: 14 to 20

Fee: €150 per student. Scholarships may be available for certain instruments.

Summer Music on the Shannon / Summer Music in Galway, which last year initiated the first stages of its plan to extend classes and performances in counties Clare, Limerick and Galway by successfully relocating the Youth Opera Theatre to Ennis, County Clare, the original home of SMS, will further develop that process for 2012 by offering the full instrumental programme in both Galway and Limerick.

ConCorda 2012

ConCorda is an international chamber music course for string players held in the picturesque Irish city of Kilkenny. Now in its sixteenth year, ConCorda offers advanced string players aged between 14 and 21 an inspiring and transforming musical experience in chamber music, string orchestra and music improvisation. The course is designed to give students the opportunity to study chamber music intensively at a very high level.

DATES: 15th (arrive 3pm) – 23rd August (depart 5pm) 2012

LOCATION: Kilkenny College, Castlecomer Road, Kilkenny, Ireland

CLOSING DATE: Friday, 1st June 2012. Late applications will be considered for the final few remaining places. Viola players are especially welcome!

FEE: €500, includes full board and all tuition fees. There is a family discount of €100 for the second and all subsequent siblings. Pre-formed string quartet  (two violins, viola & cello) receive €50 discount per person. Maximum discount is €100 per student.

IAYO National Chamber Music Workshop 2012

The IAYO National Chamber Music Workshops take place in September again this year. It caters for young instrumental players of stringed and wind instruments from grade two to grade five, often giving players their first experience of chamber music making. To date they have taken place in Donegal, Kildare, Kerry, Limerick, Sligo, Galway, Wexford, Cork and Kilkenny.

Applications are currently CLOSED but you may still be added to the reserve list. If you are interested in applying please contact the IAYO office on 021 421 5185.

Course fees are €70 residential and €50 non-residential.

DYO Aravon 2012

DYO’s annual summer school for chamber music, band and percussion takes place between 24th June and 3 July 2012 at Aravon School in Bray, County Wicklow. Courses include sporting and other activities in addition to musical activities.

Ceol na Mara 2012

The Ceol Na Mara Summer School for Strings will take place between the 29th July and 3rd August 2012 in the Connemara West Centre, Letterfrack, County Galway.

Now in it’s fifth consecutive year, it is a family friendly course suitable to all ages and levels including adults. The classes involve classical and traditional music as well as mixing in some elements of drama, dance and music appreciation.

IYWE 2012

The Irish Youth Wind Ensemble 2012  (IYWE) is now open for applications for auditions.

You can apply on-line at www.iywe.ie

Closing date is Friday 23 March 2012

Applicants must be aged between 16 and 25 during the term of the course (12 – 19 August 2012) and must have a minimum of grade 6 standard.

Auditions will be held in Cork on Friday 30 March 2012 and Dublin on Saturday 31 March and Sunday 1 April 2012.

Other audition dates may be announced.
